De Real Ting Cafe in Jacksonville

A group of friends and I arrived at 12 am one Sunday morning. There was a $10.00 cover charge. I ordered Jerk Chicken, Rice and Peas and Plantain and Vegetables. It was pretty good and the portions were ample. It cost $9.00 plus tax. Not bad. Some of the ladies just had drinks but one of the ladies in my group had the Ox Tails and Macaroni and Cheese, which looked really good, it cost a little more than what I paid around $14-15. We enjoyed the music, danced a little and had more drinks. We had a fun time and I will probably come back next time I visit Jax, maybe during the daytime to enjoy the full buffet.

Awesome authentic Jamaican food

I've tried this place maybe 2-3 times now. I try to give it the benefit of the doubt on Friday or Saturday nights. However, the woman who collects money at the door is INCREDIBLY rude. I've seen and experienced her be abrupt, rude, condescending, and just all around inconsiderate at the door. I understand the job requires a backbone and to be firm with people, but there is just no need for her level of rudeness, especially when customers are polite to her! I have seen the other men who work alongside her apologize for her rudeness. I will not be returning to this place again nor will I ever recommend it to anyone.

FOOD AND MUSIC IS GREAT BASEMENT LIKE NY FEEL

Delicious food, and an easy, quiet place to grab lunch. I love the buffet. The jerk chicken is fantastic. The only dangerous thing is the unlimited cornbread and plantains!

Oh my God, the snapper is awesome! I always try something different when I go here and have never been disappointed yet. The food is amazing and authentic!

Got delivery, food wasn’t bad. Dinner was supposed to come with a roll and did not. Paid extra for all white meat; they were completely out and did not refund extra cost. Meal tasted good but was pretty dry.

I went there today to have a business lunch. It was 1pm the buffet was empty. We had rice with gravy because it was the only thing available. I asked the waitress when was the buffet going to be restocked she said there working on it now. After another 15 to 20 I asked again and was told its coming. Long story short 30 mins my business guest was full on rice and cornbread. I was able to eat chicken and greens 1 hour later. They never restocked. Charged me full price for 3 guest and said they had to charge me per the owner. They laughed and went on to serve carry out meals to waiting customer's. I also notice spoons used by customers was in the gravy and pans if they would have had food in them Pure Germs, filthy !!!!

Having just been back from Jamaica, I was super happy with the food here. It's a great value for very tasty food. The jerk chicken might actually have been tastier here!

A little gem of a place in downtown Jacksonville. I highly recommend the lunch buffet. The food is delicious. The staff is first rate. Want to get away far from the maddening crowd? This is your ticket to the Bahamas.

Wanted a place where i could enjoy Jamaican music but that didn't work out at all. If they played 10 dancehall/reggae songs, then that was alot. I was so disappointed by the fact that i drove almost an hour and got that. Might as well I had gone to the normal club that was close by.

Always been a returning customer and always will be. I have SPENT PLENTY OF NIGHT IN THEIR CLUB but I just recently have been going for lunch and let me just say I cant stop going back. Great lunch deals,quality food, big portions,fresh,home feel. MANGO TEA IS SO GOOD. I will always be in club but it seems like I am always going to be there for lunch now to... ITS DA REAL TING

Thursday nights....open mic night!! Loved it so much and they have 3 for $9 wells. The food is delicious. The host and dj for Thursdays are hilarious and kept me laughing. Loved it so much.

Comfortable place to share food in small place. food quality was amazing. quick service. staff was very cooperative and polite. all in all am impressed from their efforts.Thanks guys.

It's a nice time if you've already had your drinks before you came. The drinks are not what they say they are. Petron tastes like beer. I've heard other people say this but I experienced first hand. Asked for another cup and the bottle she came with was already open and tasted the same as the first cup. I had been drinking Petron before I came so my taste buds were already set for that particular drink so a difference stood out immediately. Asked for management and he was rude. He said take it or leave it. I left it. My sister experienced this problem with her Ciroq. Unless you're drinking beer or wine something out of a can or smaller bottle drink before you come.. I love Friday night tho. Music is great..

This place is one of our favorites for lunch during the work week for their delicious Jamaican lunch buffet. Such a variety of tasty food, & plenty to choose from even if you don't eat meat. I love their jerk chicken, oxtails, stewed chicken, sweet plantain, but I'm especially fond of their fried fish & special sauce. The price is easy on the pockets which is always a plus!

They get three stars for having a buffet of Caribbean Style Cuisine. Poor service by my waitress, on my first visit... I'll give this place another shot on my next visit to Jacksonville.

Visited this spot on a recommendation from someone in the area and we had a great time! The DJ's played a variety of old and new songs and kept the dance floor packed! Great food and the drinks were reasonably priced! If you're looking for an island party, look no further!

Jerk chicken was full of flavor with mix of fruits, salad and the Jerk chicken it's sweet and spicy and filling. The young ladies there are very helpful and polite

What business model is this? Tell people the regular line is closed to force them to pay more in the “VIP” line? Explain. I know you want to make money but where is your customer service?! You would have made much more money by letting people through the regular line so that we could go buy drinks but you chose to hold the line because you are greedy but not business savvy. Disgusting. Never again

Heart Poetry show hosted Fridays by Moses West. Great music and poetry! The guys working the security were kind and respectful. The guy giving out wristbands was nice and reapectful too. Great music downstairs! My kinda hood!

The food is very good but if you're it on the buffet is excellent they have different stuff in the buffet everyday Wednesdays and Fridays is my favorites Wednesday because of the escabeche fish and Friday because of the oxtail

Decent reggae spot. Ladies in for $10. They close pretty late around 3:30-4ish compared to 2am closing time for Jacksonville clubs. The crowd is mixed with Jamaican and American. Mostly black people go there. I went on a Friday and also Saturday more people go on a Saturday on Friday it was not as packed. People are allowed to smoke in the club. The club is pretty big with a nice dance floor. People start to dance once crowd gets packed.

Coming here was a great Caribbean relief to my life at sea in Louisiana. I ordered the oxtails, seasoned to homegrown perfection. The best experience I've had so far in Jacksonville with a restaurant that turned their basement into a Caribbean lounge.
